CMONGOOD.com Interviews: Amanda Diva

Previously I did a post that a certain female rapper would be joining Lupe on some of his tour dates. Well, I decided to contact Amanda Diva and find out what else is up with her.

CMONGOOD: Amanda Amanda The queen Diva, the best noncommercial female rapper to bless the mic! ok when did you switch from writing poetry to getting behind the mic?
Amanda: LOL! What an intro! I can actually pin point the switch to March 2006. I was performing poetry at the Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe and there was a house band there. I was performing and realized that my poems were sounding different with the band. They were in pocket and sounded more like rhymes. The next week I ran into the drummer and he said he wanted to play for me. The next week went into the studio and the music just developed from there.

CMONGOOD: You ever been to the A?

Amanda: WHAT?! I’M AN APHILLIATE!

CMONGOOD: Oh ok I actually didn’t know that. Whats your favorite restaurant because I’m always hungry and I just moved here.

Amanda: Lol! I STAY in the A. I’m always looking for an excuse to come to the A. I went to this ill Italian restaurant with the most AMAZING lasagna I’ve ever tasted in my life. But dagnammit I can’t remember its name right now for the live of me.

CMONGOOD: What do you think is missing from the rap game right now?

Amanda: Emcees with substance, swagger, and class. Female AND Male!

CMONGOOD: Is the music industry as grimey as people always say it is?

Amanda: Yes. it never ceases to ama zes me. Really the grime comes from the fake and phoniness. When you’re dealing with people that stand for nothing they’ll do anything to get to their goal. That’s a scary dog eat dog world to be in. But i didn’t chose music, music chose me.

CMONGOOD: As a female artist with such positive messages to deliver, do you find it more difficult to get people to listen to you and labels to believe in you?

Amanda: I really have stopped sweating labels. I signed myself to myself and that makes me proud. Folks have been hella receptive to the positivity. I think people want some diversity in what they’re hearing these days so they’ve been very welcoming to my music. It feels great.

CMONGOOD: Ok, because your message is sooo powerful, your spit technique has to be iller because you want people to actually listen to you. Are there any rappers that you kind of compete with to step your game up?

Amanda: I mean i don’t necessarily “compete” with them but I when I listen to these artists it inspired to push myself: The GZA, Lupe, Lauryn (still!), and Classic Nas.

So thats what is folks. She is mad cool and she is an Affiliate which I didn’t know and she is signed to know one but herself. Independent seems to be the way to go.
