CMONGOOD: Which talent is your favorite between rapping and singing?
Chey: I love to sing thats always gonna be where my heart is. When it comes to expressing whats really on my mind and stuff that I been through nothing can bring that out like when I sing… when I rap I’m more on some swag lol which is fun as hell. Like writing a rhyme takes like 20 minutes with a song I’m singing on I like to build and come back to it and really tell a story.

CMONGOOD: Now to be so young you have gone through so much in the industry and being signed to two labels that didn’t quite work out, what motivates you to keep tryin?
Chey: Haha well I’m glad I got into the biz young cause I sure have been through a bunch of s*ht! I have my tough days, people dont realize that the struggle can get critical, especially when your just buzzin and starting to break onto the scene in a big way. Its always a hustle and I go through setbacks everyday. But my motivation is I love what I do, theres nothin else I could imagine doin in the world. As cutthroat as this industry can be I know it like the back of my hand, thats why I’m always two steps ahead. And I know that drive makes anything possible.

CMONGOOD: Do you have many situations where because of your age and looks people try to sell you short as far as being a rapper?
Chey: Alllll the time! People automatically assume if your a chick especially a YOUNG chick, that u cant flow or you cant swag. It doesnt help that the industry ratio for chicks verses dudes is hella unbalanced… but I dont pay attention to any of that. I just do me. I kno my style is something people are gonna hate or love lol I’ve never had anyone like yea your music is aight. They either like Man I love you, your the future! or Dude I hate your music, stop jockin Fergie lmaoo

CMONGOOD: You been to the A? what’s ur favorite restaurant?
Chey: Yes I loooove ATL. Just the whole vibe down there is sick. Its laid back but still poppin, the people are always just coolin out. And the music scene is bananas. Can you believe I’ve never been out to eat down there tho! I know its like a crime cause there so many spots people tell me I HAVE to go to but I’m always down there on some biz and end up just recording, sleepin and then headin out. Story of my life lol but I’m trynna get a house down there in the next couple years so I’ll keep you updated once I start grubbin.

CMONGOOD: who are some artists you would love to work with more than anyone?
Chey: So many people ask me that and I feel wack cuz my answer always changes haha…I mean I would obviously love to work with Prince and Bootsy Collins at some point in my career, but there are some artist out now who I am in awe of. Kanye, Justin, Gwen Stefani..the way she writes is amazing to me I’d love the chance to sit with her and create something.

CMONGOOD: As far as writing who is your benchmark?
Chey: Robin Thicke… Sean Garret. People who can craft amazing pop songs. For an artist its easy to bare your soul and make records about what you know. But to make a song that speaks to the world, writing about things in a clever way that translates…thats a gift. And I hope one day I can count myself among those who do that best.

CMONGOOD: What cd are you listening to the most right now?
Chey: Sade

CMONGOOD: How did you link up with DefPen?
Chey: Shout out to Ducketz. He actually found me, right before I started poppin on myspace he saw somethin in me and was like yo I wanna bring you over here Def Pen’s got you and the rest is history lol. Def Pens one of the most valuable relationships I have in this industry to date because they saw what nobody else could see and took a risk. Its very rare to find people in this industry that believe in you for your talent and dont have ulterior motives and I’m glad to say my Def Pen fam are some of the few.

Chey: Well Ameer from Urbansteez linked me and asked me if I would do an interview for them. I said of course and once it went up people just started coming out and supporting heavy.
