Video: Cee-Lo Green – Fuck You

1 September 2010

This goes out to you Kat Stacks! Ole gold diggin a** trick!   Actually you’re not even a gold digger, you’re just dirty.  And it’s a dope video starring a young Cee-Lo Green and a gold digger in training.  It’s sad when little girl’s who are raised to expect the best aren’t taught to work for it.

Vibe asks: Was there somebody that you were thinking about while singing this? An ex?

No, in all honesty not to spoil it for people… If people wanna believe that it’s biographical to whatever degree then go ahead, have some fun with the song, but no, it’s a fictitious account on the trial and error that we’ve all gone through a time or two. You can’t win them all for whatever particular reason so we were just having fun. It started off as a joke. Who would’ve known a song called “Fuck You” would be so commercially celebrated. Or get to a place to where radio tries to make amends, tries to find an alternative to where they can play it. They’re asking us, “Help us play this record.” I couldn’t have predicted that. That’s great. I hope the song shows optimism amongst artists and executives alike, like ultimately it is anti-establishment to let you know: what has my career been but a big fuck you to the industry time and time again.

Produced by Salaam Remi, Nelly Furtado performs her new track Free from her next LP Lifestyle that as yet, has no release date.  We loves her and she and mama Erykah been on that thickums diet, haven’t they?  This was at the Orange Warsaw Festival in Poland that she headlined this past weekend.

“I’m taking my time, enjoying each thing, each project. I don’t really put a lot of pressure on myself,” she said from the press room of the Orange Festival this weekend. “Just continuing to promote my Spanish album, working on other material. And working on my label called Nelstar Music, out of Toronto. Yeah, working on that project, working with other artists, producing, writing, trying to build the label a little bit.”

JoJo, the little girl with the big voice is all grown up now and finally has new music coming out.  She has this Rap Up exclusive mixtape, Can’t Take That Away From Me coming out on September 7th and according to Toya’s World she will also be recording a duet with Brandy soon.  That is going to be awesome, I have always been a big JoJo fan and this song is very different for her.

“I think ‘In the Dark’ is different than anything people have heard from me before,” JoJo says of the song, which was produced by Jordan Gatsby and co-written by JoJo and Gatsby. “It’s a very sensual record and there’s an undertone of sadness to it.”

Video: Khalil – Girlfriend Ringtone

30 August 2010

I think this is such a cute kid!  Khalil has been getting a lot of comparison’s to Chris Brown because of his look and the fact that he dances as well.  They do have a similar look, but I think it’s way too early to tell what he will bring to the table.  This is is his first single and it’s written by “The Pen” Sean Garrett.  His debut album Something Like Summer is due out early next year.

Throwback Sunday: Nu Shooz – I Can’t Wait

29 August 2010

Aaaaah I loved the 80′s! This Throwback Sunday edition is so classic that I can picture the playground, striped socks and the older girls in the neighborhood teaching us to double dutch (never quite got the hang of it).  Nu Shooz was pretty much a one hit wonder band because although they released 3 albums and several singles, none did quite as well as I Can’t Wait and you can hear why.  The synthy sounding instrumentation in arrangement of this song is the best part.  It was produced by John Smith one half of the duo and the band’s manager Rick Waritz. Happy Sunday!

Cuz I can’t wait, til you call me on the telephone...;-)
